Webinar Summary
The following summary is auto-generated from the webinar recording.
As the year comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible advancements we've made at Blues. We're excited to share insights from our recent webinar, where our experts discussed the strides we've taken in wireless connectivity solutions and the future of our products. Let’s dive into the highlights!
Meet the Team Behind the Innovation
The opening of our session was done by the Blues team who introduced themselves. The professionals presented their different and unique ways of viewing their disciplines, and this is what we could see:
- Sean Taylor: Firmware wizard for Notecard, with nearly four years at Blues.
- Scott Frazier: Notehub specialist, here for two years, ready to answer questions about Notecard's interaction with the cloud.
- TJ VanToll: Developer relations guru, managing documentation and guides.
- Zak Fields: DevX expert, focusing on firmware and customer ease of use.
- Rob Lauer: Director of developer relations, leading discussions and inquiries.
Key Highlights of 2023
During this year, we adopted the idea of "Wireless Harmonization", which let the product builders choose the corresponding radio access technology (RAT) freely without any upfront commitments. This means that you can prototype with one technology and deploy with another, which ensures that the decision is made concerning the deployment needs and not due to the constraints of development.
Harmonization of Radio Access Technologies
We’ve made significant progress with our Notecards, which are now fully swappable, allowing developers to transition between cellular, Wi-Fi, and LoRa technologies seamlessly. This adaptability is crucial as we look toward the future, particularly with the impending sunset of 4G networks.
Location Gathering Technologies
Access to GPS has always been a feature of our cellular Notecards. However, we understand the limitations of GPS, especially regarding power consumption and time delays. To address this, we introduced Wi-Fi triangulation, which allows for accurate location determination using nearby Wi-Fi access points, significantly improving power efficiency.
Streamlined Data Flow with Notehub
Our Notehub service has transformed into a perfected tool for users to develop solutions that can communicate with a single cloud service, irrespective of the deployment method. Consequently, you can monitor your devices, control the environment variables, and track the events more subtly from one management platform.
Looking Ahead: What’s Coming in 2024?
As we peer into the future, the question on many minds is: what’s next for the Notecard? While we can't disclose specific products yet, we assure our community that we are actively exploring advancements in 5G and satellite technologies. We recognize the importance of narrowband IoT solutions and are excited to integrate these into our offerings.
New Hardware Releases
This year, we launched the Cellular + Wi-Fi Notecard, which comes in four models and features essential Wi-Fi to cellular fallback capabilities. Additionally, we introduced a low-cost Wi-Fi only Notecard priced at just $10, making it accessible for more developers.
Notecard for LoRa
The new Notecard for LoRa allows users to connect to any Things Network LoRaWAN gateway, expanding our offerings in the IoT space. While still in beta, we're aiming for a public release early next year.
Sparrow and Future Developments
While Sparrow was our initial foray into LoRa technology, it has now transitioned to focus on the new Notecard for LoRa. We're prioritizing this new product to provide the same seamless interaction that our users expect from our other Notecards.
Enhancements in Notehub
Our cloud service, Notehub, has undergone significant enhancements, including new filtering and searching capabilities for events, making data management easier than ever. We also introduced various routes to deliver Notecard data to other cloud services, including Slack and Twilio integrations.
Firmware Updates and Developer Tools
The Notecard firmware is updated frequently; we have responded to our OTA DFU issues that work normally, and we have also achieved a more straightforward API for large data uploads. Our strong commitment to providing a robust developer experience is evident in the ever-progressing SDKs and tools.
Final Thoughts
With the close of the year, we take a look at the bright era ahead. The innovations we made throughout 2023 are the trampoline for a more energetic company 2024.
